1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

Spyware infections are the most common cause of PC slowdowns. Malwarebytes is a very powerful application that will remove most spyware infections with a few simple clicks.

2. AVG Antivirus:

In addition to running scans for Spyware it is always a good idea to follow that up with a anti-virus scan. AVG provides a free version of their software that is highly recommended by PCS. Important note: it is never a good idea to have more than one anti-virus application installed. If you already have anti-virus you should stick with what you have or un-install that application and then install AVG.

Over time temporary files left on your PC by applications can use an excessive amount of hard drive space as well as cause slowdowns. CCleaner is a simple tool designed to remove these unnecessary files with a few easy steps.

5. Disk Defragmenter (built into Windows):

One simple task you can perform to help speed up your PC is to defragment your hard drive. Fragmentation is when files are scattered across the hard drive in random places. This happens over time as files are added and deleted from the drive. Thankfully Windows includes a free tool that can be used to fix this.

Disk Defragmenter can be accessed by clicking Start, then Programs, then Accessories, System Tools, and selecting Disk Defragmenter. Choose the disk you would like to defragment (usually C:) and click Start.
